Difference between Facilitated Diffusion and Active Transport

                     Facilitated Diffusion

1. Molecules move down the concentration gradient,from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration of substances.

2.Molecules move through pore proteins or carrier proteins.

3. Occurs till a dynamic equilibrium is reached.

4.ATP or energy is not needed.

5.Not affected by inhibitors.

6.Not dependent on cellular respiration.


                            Active Transport

1.Molecules move against the concentration gradient,from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration of substances.

2.Molecules move through carrier proteins only.

3.The process will not reach an equilibrium but results in the accumulation of substances in the cell or removal of substances from the cell.

4.ATP or energy is required.

5.Inhibited by inhibitors such as respiratory poisons.

6.Dependent on cellular respiration.
